The Best Men’s Player

The Best FIFA awards took place on Thursday evening.

Due to Covid-19, there was no in-person attendance for this year’s ceremony.

But with the Ballon d’Or not set to take place this year, The Best awards nevertheless marked the most high-profile football ceremony of 2020.

The most sought after accolade up for grabs on the evening came in the form of The Best FIFA Men’s Player award.

The award was first handed out in 2016, to then Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese then picked it up again the following year, before Luka Modric and last year Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski sees off Messi & Ronaldo

2020 saw Messi, Ronaldo and Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski make up the top-three shortlist.

Though Barcelona as a whole majorly under-performed, Messi enjoyed a fantastic 2020.

Last season, for example, saw the Argentine finish as both the top-scorer and top-assister in La Liga with 25 goals and a staggering 21 assists.

Ronaldo, meanwhile helped Juventus to yet another league title, notching 31 goals in the process.

As for Lewandowski, he, of course, played a huge role in Bayern Munich clinching the quadruple – which included hammerings of Barcelona and Chelsea en route to a Champions League final victory over PSG.

And, on Thursday evening, it was the Pole who beat off some stiff competition to land his first-ever The Best Men’s Player award:
